R-2 Rapson

R-2 Rapson :

A process for making chlorine dioxide by reacting sodium chlorate with sodium chloride and sulfuric acid: 2NaClO3 + 2NaCl + 2H2SO4 + 2ClO2 + Cl2 + 2Na2SO4 + 2H2O. The product gas, mixed with by-product chlorine, is stripped from the solution by a current of air and passed into water. The chlorine dioxide dissolves and most of the chlorine does not; the latter is absorbed in a second column containing alkali. (Check source for accuracy of chemical formula)
