All games have rules: --Salen & Zimmerman describe rules as limiting player action (2004, 138). --Half-Real, chapter 3 argues that rules specify limitations and affordances. --Piaget (1941) examines how groups of boys developed the rules of a game of marbles over time. --Neumann & Morgenstern emphasize the distinction between the rules of a game (which are obligatory) and the strategies the player plays with (which are not)
