Scale-Up of Reactions

Scale-Up of Reactions :

Increasing the capacity of a process by increasing the dimensions of the equipment. Since not all equipment characteristics change identically, scale-up generally has side-effects; for example the ratio of heat loss over heat generation decreases for larger vessels, inducing an "unexpected" runaway reaction when increasing the scale of the process. Reactor configurations will change on scale-up. Different functions are often performed in the same reactor: heat transfer, (2) reaction, and (3) mixing. Each can dictate the required scaleup procedure since each can be the controlling mechanism
