Stability 01

Stability 01 : (1) (Phys) The tendency to remain in a given state or condition. Note: A stable dynamic system possesses restoring forces that return it to its equilibrium state when it is disturbed by an outside force. (2) (Chem) The resistance of a chemical compound to decomposition. (3) (Build; Brit) The capacity to resist failure when exposed to shock, stress, or other severe condition. A measure characterizing the lasting quality of building construction elements, and the like, under fire conditions. Note: In a fire-resistance test stability is measured to the time of collapse for nonbearing constructions; to the time of deflection exceeding specified limits for horizontal constructions; and to 80% of the time to collapse for load-bearing constructions, or to 80% of the heating time if collapse occurs in the reload test
