Weapons of Mass Effect (WME) :
“Weapons of mass effect, or WME, are weapons capable of inflicting grave destructive, psychological and/or economic damage to the United States. These include chemical, biological, nuclear, radiological, or explosive weapons”. Note: Due to concerns over confusion spawned by attempts to draw distinctions between the terms “weapons of mass destruction” and “weapons of mass effect,” as well as “CBRN” or “CBRNE” (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, high-explosive) the Department of Homeland Security ceased referring to “weapons of mass effect” in 2006.127
