Young Worker


Young Worker : The ILO Minimum Age Convention, 1973 (No. 138) clearly sets out the kinds of work that may be performed by a person under 18, and the conditions that may apply. The Convention takes into account factors including a country's level of development, work that is part of education and schooling, and the effects of work on a child's health, morals, and school attendance. It also considers the age of the child and the kind of work. A young worker is one aged above the minimum age for employment in a country (usually 15), but less than 18. The Convention states that young workers should not be employed in situations where their health, safety, or morals are likely to be jeopardized. Employment may be allowed if the young worker is at least 16, their health, safety, and morals are protected, and they have been properly trained
