Brake Block
Brake Block : A brake block consists of a highly polished brass fitting in the form of a square figure 8, having at the top a projecting shoulder and a ring for attaching to the head of an escape or to a building. The object of the brake block is to check the speed of the rope which is being used for lowering. The term is also applied to the curved mass of friction-producing material intended to decelerate a wheel in motion
