Chain Number

Chain Number : A size designation for roller chains, such as the drive chains of bicycles or motorcycles. These chains are traditionally designated by a three-digit number. The first digit specifies the pitch, the distance between pins, in eighths of aninch; the second and third digits specify the width of the rollers in 80ths of an inch. Thus a 425 chain has a pitch of 4/8 (= 0.5) inch and a roller width of 25/80 (= 0.3125) inch
