Aerate 1 : (1) (Techn) To expose a liquid or slurry (sometimes granular material) to air to release dissolved gases or to increase oxygen content. To deodorize milk purify water, fumigate and bleach cereal grains, etc. by passing air through them. Note: Aeration has a special meaning in the generation of mechanical foam. (2) (Techn) To charge with gas, usually carbon dioxide. (3) (Physiol) To charge blood with gas, as in the oxygenation of the blood during its passage through the lung capillaries in respiration
