Excess Air 1

Excess Air 1 : A term employed in fuel technology relating to the air supplied to a fuel in excess of that required for the theoretical and perfect combustion of the fuel. A certain amount of excess air is necessary in fuel efficiency, but too much has an adverse effect since it serves to chill the fire, and to waste heat. Excess air, together with the products of combustion from the firebed, eventually pass into the atmosphere via the chimney or flue, hence it becomes apparent that any heat absorbed by excess air is wasted
