Fuel Arrangement 4 : The horizontal and vertical distribution of all combustible materials within a particular fuel type. (1) Horizontal fuel arrangement - A description of the distribution of fuels on the horizontal plane. The horizontal arrangement of fuels will influence the relative ease with which fire can spread horizontally across an area of land. (2) Vertical fuel arrangement - A description of the distribution of fuels on the vertical plane, from the ground up to the canopy levels of vegetation. The vertical arrangement of fuels will influence the relative ease with which fire can spread vertically through the fuel layers
