HSC 8 :
Homeland Security Council. The HSC performs a critical national security function. It was established by Homeland Security Presidential Directive-1 dated October 29, 2001 to ensure coordination of Federal, State, and local agencies to reduce the potential for terrorist attacks and to mitigate damage when an attack occurs. It is further to ensure coordination of all homeland security-related activities among executive departments and agencies and promotes the development and implementation of all homeland security policies
