Kyoto Protocol 1 : (To the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) Strengthens the Convention by committing major industrial countries to legally binding targets to limit or reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. The Protocol was adopted at a Conference of Parties to the Convention in Kyoto, Japan, in December 1997. Canada ratified the Protocol on December 17, 2002
