Liquefied Natural Gas. "A natural gas that has been cooled to minus 260 degrees Fahrenheit to a liquid state so that it can be transported. Consists almost entirely of methane (85-95 percent) along with small concentrations of ethane, propane, butane, and trace amounts of nitrogen. Mainly used as fuel for electricity generation, home heating, industrial manufacturing, and, to a lesser extent, motor vehicles". (GAO, Maritime Security, December 2007, p. 87)
