NHIS : The National Hazards Information Strategy. The NHIS, formerly known as the Global Disaster Information Network (GDIN), is an interagency effort to assist federal, state, local, and private efforts to reduce disaster risks and losses through improved prediction, preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation of natural and technological hazards. Relates to the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) which is a function of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). NOAA collaborates with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Multi-Hazard Mapping Program, the National Weather Service (NWS) and the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) to improve operational support
