Asbestos 11 : ILO Convention No. 162 (1986) aims to prevent occupational hazards due to asbestos. This Convention applies to all activities involving the exposure of workers to asbestos in the course of work.. National laws or regulations shall prescribe the measures to be taken for the prevention and control of, and the protection of workers against, health hazards due to occupational exposure to asbestos. The employer is responsible for compliance, and enforcement is ensured by inspection. Exclusions, exemptions and revisions are regulated by the Convention. The Convention enumerates various detailed measures for protection and prevention, as well as for the monitoring of both the workplace and of the workers' health.
