Olefin 1
Olefin 1 : (Chem) An unsaturated hydro-carbon, sometimes referred to as an alkene, containing one or more double bonds between carbon atoms. Olefins contain twice as many hydrogen atoms as carbon atoms and are of the general formula C(n)H(2n) for singly unsaturated (one double bond) compounds; for example, butane (CH2:CHCH2CH3) ethylene (H2C:CH2), and propylene (CH3CH:CH2). NOTE: Olefins, obtained from petroleum and natural gas, are characterized by relatively high chemical activity. Used in making textile fibers
