Phase of Fire
Phase of Fire : (Fire Pr) A defined stage in the history of a fire. Note: Three phases of fire development and progress are said to occur in enclosed spaces. Phase 1 is a smoldering interior fire involving ordinary combustibles, and the oxygen content of the air is approx normal. Phase 2 is the period during which flames are consuming ordinary combustibles, and the oxygen content of the air ranges down from 21% to 15%. Phase 3 is a hazardous smoldering period in which the oxygen content of the air has been depleted below 15%, and a smoke explosion (back draft) becomes possible if outside air is suddenly admitted.
