Pillar, Hold
Pillar, Hold : Also called: Hold Stanchions and may be of solid round iron bars, tubes, channel bars, etc. They are secured to the deck beams and tank tops, acting not only as a support to the deck but serving to tie the top and bottom of the ship together. As it is the aim to leave as much of the holds as possible clear for cargo, some ships are fitted with portable stanchions or pillars
