Pipe Flow

Pipe Flow : (Fl Mech) The motion of fluids in closed conduits. Note: In a round, smooth pipe, the flow is laminar when the product of the flow velocity and the pipe diameter divided by the kinematic viscosity of the fluid is less than 2000. Above 2000, flow becomes turbulent. In laminar flow, the velocity distribution across the pipe diameter is parabolic. Flow velocity is maximum along the axis of the pipe and approaches zero velocity at the walls. See: Reynold's Number
