Pitot Tube 01

Pitot Tube 01 : (Aerodyn) An instrument used to measure the stagnation (total or impact) pressure of a flowing fluid. Note: In most common use, the tube, bent to a right angle, is inserted into the center of a flow with the open end pointing upstream and aligned with the flow. A gage attached to the other end of the tube indicates the pressure. Velocity measurement errors can arise if the tube is used incorrectly. In fire practice the tube is inserted into a hose stream at a distance of half the nozzle diameter away from the orifice, and flow rates are determined with the aid of published tables. Also called: Impact Tube; Pilot Gage. See: Piezometer Tube
