Regardless of which process is used, the basic procedures are the same for both adaptive, deliberate and crisis action planning: (1) receive and analyze the task to be accomplished (2) review the enemy situation and begin to collect necessary intelligence (3) develop and compare courses of action (4) select a course of action (COA) (5) develop and get approval for the selected COA (6) prepare a plan (7) then document the plan.
