Plastic 1

Plastic 1 : (1) (Metall; Phys) The property of being easily deformable. (2) (Chem) Any of a wide range of natural or synthetic organic materials of high molecular weight that can be formed by pressure, heat, extrusion, and other methods into desired shapes. Plastics are usually made from resins, polymers, cellulose derivatives, caseins, and proteins. The principal types are thermosetting (irreversibly rigid) and thermoplastic (reversibly rigid). Note: Plastics may be grouped by physical characteristics into five categories: film, formed, filled, foam, and fiber or filament. Films include sheets, coatings, and adhesives; formed plastics include rods, blocks, castings, extrusions, and moldings; filled forms include reinforced plastics in which another material is distributed throughout the plastic; foamed plastics include cellular and honeycomb structures; fibers and filaments are essentially plastic threads
