Here the same as tectonic plate. In tectonics, a plate is an internally rigid segment of the Earth's lithosphere which is in motion relative to other plates and to deeper mantle beneath the lithosphere. See plate motions, plate tectonics, and Uyeda (2002), and Stein and Klosko (2002)
