Point-Of-Contact Exposure 1

Point-Of-Contact Exposure 1 : Exposure expressed as the product of the concentration of an agent in the medium of exposure and the duration and surface area of contact with the body surface (e.g. mg/cm2-hours). Some agents do not need to be absorbed into the body but rather produce toxicity directly at the point of contact (e.g., the skin, mouth, GI tract, nose, bronchial tubes, or lungs). In such cases the absorbed dose is not the relevant measure of exposure; rather it is the amount of toxic agents coming directly into contact with the body surface.
