Poisson's Ratio 2 :

An elastic body like a metal bar under uniaxial tension shows elongation along the tension axis and shrinkage in the transverse direction. The absolute ratio of the transverse strain to the longitudinal strain is called Poisson's ratio. Poisson's ratios for rocks are typically around 0.25.
