This is 'of politics', where politics is all about power; who wields it and the ways in which it is used. The concept of politics and the political is not to be limited to the 'ruling of the state'. This 'political science' notion, though a fundamental aspect of the study of politics, is not all there is to politics and the political. Indeed, wherever there is a social grouping, the dynamics of power will emerge. Sub-groups and individuals will attempt to impose their will on other members of the grouping. To accommodate this dimension, a more 'sociological' notion of politics could be "...the process by which groups make collective decisions" - Rod Hague and Martin Harrop (1991).
