Pore Pressure 1

Pore Pressure 1 : In soil mechanics, the pressure within the fluid that fills voids between soil particles. In rock mechanics, the pressure due to liquids in formations that offsets the strengthening effect of normal stresses acting on a fault. At a given depth, the ambient pore pressure is often observed to be nearly equivalent to that of a column of water extending upward to the ground surface, a pore pressure regime termed the hydrostatic.
