Public Health (Ph) 1 :
(1) The art and science that addresses the protection & improvement of community health by organized community effort, including preventive medicine and sanitary & social science, or, simply put: "what we, as a society, do collectively to assure the conditions in which people can be healthy" (Institute of Medicine: The Future of Public Health - 1988). (2) The science and practice of protecting and improving the overall health of the community through disease prevention and early diagnosis, control of communicable diseases, health education, injury prevention, sanitation, and protection from environmental hazards.
