Pump, Downton : This is a hand force pump of special type. It is a powerful pump, and can pump from any one of a number of compartments or from the sea, also discharge wherever required. Varous deck hand pumps are done away with in most steamers and a Downton pump installed. Should it be needed for fire extinguishing it can draw water from the sea and discharge it into the fire main. It is also used for filling the sanitary tank and supplying water for washing down decks, etc
