Qualified Majority Voting (QMV)


Qualified Majority Voting (QMV) :

Each member state has a specified number of votes, allocated broadly according to their population size. 255 votes are needed for a qualified majority out of a total of 345 votes to carry a decision. In addition, the 255 votes in favour of a proposal have to be cast by a majority (or in some cases a two-thirds majority) of Member States, and at least 62% of the Union's population.
