The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) is the primary provider of fire suppression and life rescue services to the residents and visitors to the state of Queensland, Australia. Its headquarters are located in Kedron, Brisbane. The QFRS has a diverse workforce including approximately 2,100 full-time fire officers, another 2,100 auxiliary (retained) fire officers and around 34,000 volunteers that cover the state. The operational fire officers are supported by 750 salaried public service employees. Reference is still made in some parts to the Rural Fire Service or RFS which ceased to exist as a separate entity when the Fire and Rescue Service Act 1990 was introduced, some members of staff and volunteers will still identify with the RFS and proclaim independence. The Minister responsible for the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service is the Honourable Jack Dempsey, Minister for Police and Community Safety. The QFRS is an agency within the Department of Community Safety, of which the Director General (and QFRS CEO) is Kelvin Anderson
