A unit of time in Spanish-speaking countries, generally considered equivalent to the English fortnight: two weeks or 14 days. However, the word is derived from quince, fifteen, indicating a period of two weeks that begins on one day and ends on the fifteenth day, two weeks later. Like fortnight, quincena is often used informally to refer to a period of approximately two weeks or half a month.
