Radiation 31 : Radiation is a heat transfer by electro-magnetic waves so it doesn't require any medium to be produced. The effect of radiation increases with temperature and decreases with distance. In a fire it is mainly produced by the flame temperature. Firefighters make use of a water curtain to protect themselves against this heat transfer (i.e. when they approach a valve to shut of a gas line)
