Rate of Spread (ROS) 5 : The speed at which a fire extends its horizontal dimensions, expressed in terms of distance per unit of time. Generally thought of in terms of a fire's forward movement or head fire rate of spread, but also applicable to backfire and flank fire ROS. Recommended SI units are metres per minute (m/min) and kilometres per hour (km/h) (1.0 m/min is equivalent to 0.06 km/h)). Note: Rate of Area Growth and Rate of Perimeter Growth
