"Risk and uncertainty relate to situations where there is more than one possible outcome. F. Knight (1921) first formally distinguished between risk and uncertainty: Risk: We can identify the probability of each possible outcome. Uncertainty: We can identify the outcome, but not the corresponding probabilities" (Knight, 1921, quoted in Bieri, 2006)
