River Flood 3 : The overflow of river courses is usually the result of prolonged, copious precipitation over a large area. The ground is saturated and cannot absorb any more water. The precipitation flows directly into the body of water. Simultaneous snow melt may also play an important role. River floods build up over a certain period of time and in general last for several days to weeks. Usually, a warning can be given a few hours or days beforehand on the basis of flood forecast
