Attenuation 24 : The reduction in intensity of radiation passing through matter due to processes such as absorption and scattering. By analogy, also used in other situations in which some radiological property, characteristic or parameter is gradually reduced in the course of passing through a medium (e.g. the reduction in activity concentration in groundwater passing through the geosphere due to processes such as sorption)
