Atterberg Limit(S) : A set of arbitrarily defined boundary conditions in soils related to water content. The limits are as follows: (1) Liquid limit: the moisture content at which a soil passes from the liquid state to the plastic state, as determined by a specific test procedure. (2) Plastic limit: the moisture content at which a soil passes from the plastic state to the semi-solid state, as determined by a specific test procedure. (3) Shrinkage limit: the moisture content from which a soil will continue to dry out without further change in volume
