Rural Workers' Organizations

Rural Workers' Organizations :

ILO Convention No. 141 (1975) concerns freedom of association for rural workers, encouragement of their organizations, and their participation in economic and social development. All persons working in agriculture have the right to establish and to join organizations of their own choosing, which shall be independent and voluntary in character and shall remain free from all interference, coercion or repression. Regarding the exercise of this right, while respecting the law of the land, and regarding the acquisition of legal personality by the organizations concerned, the Convention reproduces the relevant provisions of the Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organize Convention, No. 87 (1948): national policy shall encourage rural workers organizations as an effective means of ensuring these workers participation in economic and social development and in the benefits which result, without discrimination. Ratifying ILO Member States shall promote the widest possible understanding of this policy. See: Freedom of association and protection of the right to organize; Rural development
