Safety Analysis Report 2 (SAR)

Safety Analysis Report 2 (SAR) : A report that systematically identifies potential hazards within a nuclear facility, describes and analyzes the adequacy of measures to eliminate or control identified hazards, and analyzes potential accidents and their associated risks. Safety analysis reports are used to ensure that a nuclear facility can be constructed, operated, maintained, shut down, and decommissioned safely and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Safety analysis reports are required for DOE nuclear facilities and as a part of applications for Nuclear Regulatory Commission licenses. The NRC regulations or DOE Orders and Technical Standards that apply to the facility type provide specific requirements for the content of safety analysis reports. See: Nuclear Facility
