Safety Officer 20 : Under the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS), a member of the Command Staff responsible for monitoring and assessing safety hazards or unsafe situations, and for developing measures for ensuring personnel safety. The Safety Officer, when acting on behalf of the Incident Commander, may enforce best practices for personal safety in the conduct of a response to an incident. The Safety Officer may have assistants. In other venues a Safety Officer is responsible for identifying and giving notice on undue risks
