Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale :

The Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale is a 1 to 5 categorization based on the hurricane's intensity at the indicated time. The scale provides examples of the type of damage and impacts in the United States associated with winds of the indicated intensity. The following table shows the scale broken down by winds: Category 1: Wind Speed 74 - 95 mph, Damage: Very dangerous winds will produce some damage. Category 2: Wind Speed 96 – 110 mph, Damage: Extremely dangerous winds will cause extensive damage. Category 3: Wind Speed 111 – 129 mph, Damage: Devastating damage will occur. Category 4: Wind Speed 130 – 156 mph, Damage: Catastrophic damage will occur. Category 5: Wind Speed > 156 mph, Damage: Catastrophic damage will occur.
