Salts 9 : Substances produced by the replacement of the whole or of part of the replaceable hydrogen of an acid by a metal. Normal salts are formed by the replacement by metals of all the replaceable hydrogen of the acid. Acid salts are formed by the replacement of part of the replaceable hydrogen of the acid. Basic salts may be regarded as normal salts chemically combined with a base. Double salts are compounds of two normal salts. Salts are prepared by (1) the action of the acid on the metal, metallic oxide, hydroxide or carbonate, (2) double decomposition of salts, and 3) direct union of a metal and a non-metal
