Seismic Gap 1

Seismic Gap 1 : A section of fault that has produced earthquakes in the past but is now quiet. For some seismic gaps, no earthquakes have been observed historically, but it is believed (on some other basis, such as plate-motion information or strain measurements) that the fault segment is capable of producing earthquakes. A longterm seismic gap may give hint to the most probable location of another strong earthquake in the future
