The Semantic Web is not a new type of Web, but rather an extension of the Web whereby data available in different locations on the Web is linked together in a way that allows the user to search the Web in a more sophisticated way, e.g. by requesting information in forms such as "Tell me where I can find information about 21st-century writers who live within 50 miles of my home town":http://www.w3.org/RDF/FAQ.
