Sense Organs


Sense Organs : (Physiol) The several structures of the nervous system of the body that are influenced by the environment or given internal conditions. Sense organs are generally divided into three classes: (1) exteroceptors, which include the auditory (hearing), tactile (touch), olfactory (smell), and optic (sight) organs; (2) interoceptors, which include the sense organs of pain, hunger, nausea, and thirst; and (3) proprioceptors, which include the organs of balance and equilibrium (muscles and the semicircular canals of the inner ear).
