Service Wells 5 : A service well is one drilled or completed for the purpose of supporting production in an existing field. Wells of this class are drilled for the following purposes: gas injection (natural gas, flare gas, inert gas, propane, or butane), water injection, steam injection, air injection, salt water disposal, water supply for injection, and observation. In certain states, these service wells require API Well Number assignments. (Bul D12A)
