Shock 01 : (1) (Mech Eng) An abrupt acceleration or deceleration of a body. (2) (Ned) A condition involving changes in blood circulation associated with bodily injury, bleeding, burns, or other traumas. Note: The mechanism is not completely understood, but is thought to be caused by local loss of blood and body fluids, release of toxic substances by the injured tissues, or changes in the tone of the blood vessels. Symptoms are apathy, clammy skin with grayish color, rapid pulse, and low blood pressure. Treatment usually includes administration of oxygen, restoration of body fluids and blood pressure by trans-fusion, conservation of body heat, and sedation
