Shock Wave 10


Shock Wave 10 : A very narrow region of high pressure usually observed in air, water or earth. The pressure pulse has two phases: firstly, the pressure rises sharply to a peak, then subsides to the normal pressure of the surroundings; secondly, the pressure falls below that of the medium, then returns to equilibrium. When an explosive is detonated the chemical travels through the material more quickly than the speed of sound in the material - hence a shock wave occurs
